Location: Bengaluru, India
Experience: 7+ years (flexible for candidates with exceptional rendering expertise)
Industry: AAA Gaming / Game Development
Role Overview
As a Rendering Programmer, you will work on the core graphics and rendering systems that power our game, collaborating closely with Engine, Tools, Gameplay, and Art teams. This is a practical, engineering-focused role requiring strong low-level programming skills, hands-on experience with graphics APIs, and the ability to deliver production-ready rendering features for shipped games.
Candidates with experience in AAA game development, engine-level programming, rendering optimization, and production releases will be strongly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and optimize real-time rendering systems for high-quality game experiences.
- Implement and maintain rendering features using C++, OpenGL, and Vulkan.
- Work on low-level graphics programming, GPU utilization, rendering pipelines, shaders, and graphics performance optimization.
- Collaborate with Engine and Tools programmers to improve rendering architecture, graphics workflows, and engine capabilities.
- Profile, debug, and resolve CPU/GPU performance bottlenecks, rendering artifacts, and graphics-related issues.
- Develop and optimize rendering solutions for performance, scalability, and visual quality across target platforms.
- Work closely with Gameplay, Art, Technical Art, and other engineering teams to integrate and ship rendering features.
- Contribute directly to production builds, ensuring rendering systems meet quality, performance, and stability requirements.
- Evaluate graphics technologies and techniques to improve visual fidelity and runtime performance.
- Participate in technical design discussions, code reviews, debugging, and architectural decisions while remaining hands-on with implementation.
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong professional experience in C++, with excellent command of modern C++ concepts, memory management, data structures, algorithms, and performance-critical programming.
- Mandatory hands-on experience with OpenGL and Vulkan in graphics or rendering development.
- Strong understanding of real-time rendering fundamentals, graphics pipelines, GPU architecture, and shader programming.
- Practical experience developing or modifying rendering systems, graphics engines, or engine-level components.
- Proven experience working on shipped games or production-ready gaming products, with direct ownership of implemented features.
- Experience with performance profiling, GPU debugging, rendering optimization, and low-level troubleshooting.
- Strong understanding of multithreading, memory and resource management, and performance optimization in real-time applications.
- Ability to independently investigate complex rendering issues and deliver robust, production-quality solutions.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional engineering and art teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Unreal Engine experience is a major advantage, particularly hands-on work with its rendering architecture, renderer modifications, RHI, shaders, or engine-level graphics systems.
- Experience working on AAA titles for PC, console, or high-end mobile platforms.
- Experience with Engine and Tools programming, including engine architecture, graphics tooling, debugging utilities, and developer workflows.
- Experience with DirectX 12, Metal, or other modern graphics APIs.
- Familiarity with rendering techniques such as physically based rendering (PBR), deferred and forward rendering, global illumination, lighting, shadows, and post-processing.
- Experience contributing to engine architecture, technical direction, mentoring, or coordinating work across engineering teams.
- A track record of delivering complex rendering features from implementation through optimization and final game shipment.
What We Are Looking For
We are looking for a deeply hands-on rendering engineer, not someone whose experience is limited to high-level design or team management. The ideal candidate combines exceptional C++ skills, strong graphics API knowledge, practical engine-level development, and proven experience taking rendering features into shipped products.
Experience with AAA game production, Unreal Engine, Engine and Tools programming, and cross-functional collaboration will help candidates stand out.
